Almighty Lord, grant to me the ears to hear Your
invitation to enter into the rest that You alone offer.
Give to me the boldness to be Your voice of grace to my neighbor. Amen.
The Saints of God in the Scripture and throughout history have been men and women of deep prayer. Movements that impact the Kingdom of God in growth don't begin at a chalkboard or in a list of "to do's." They being on the knees of the Saints. When David inquired of the Lord, the Lord led. When David did not inquire of the Lord, but went off on his own and he always found himself in trouble. The disciples didn't ask Jesus to teach them how to preach or how to process Jewish history. They did ask Jesus to teach them how to pray. Jesus wondered why it took them so long to figure out the critical role of prayer in their lives. The Son of God had certainly demonstrated the centrality of Prayer in His own life. Paul said, pray for us and and for kings . . . ceaselessly. And of course, Luther was on his kness in prayer. Are we so arrogant as to think this is beyond us? I have witnessed this arrogance in the body, even amongst leaders. Such has no place in a life of faith whose object is Jesus.
The Scripture has much to say concerning prayer. If you want to talk about an adventure, trying praying. It is so simple, the youngest of children can pray. It is so difficult, the most mature in our culture can't find time to pray. It is so complicated that the Holy Spirit Himself has to translate our mumblings to the Father. It is so beautiful that the Father cannot wait to hear from you. He is eager to listen, more than we are to pray. Don't let your fears or cultual influences preclude your prayer life. Right now, thank God that He wants to listen to all you have to say. --Steven Misch
