    Paul was in adventure, but never alone. Through dangerous waters Paul sailed, not by himself but with two dear friends, companions, and Christian brothers. This brotherly love was not a matter of feelings. It was a measure of personal sacrifice. The companions were Luke and Aristarchus.

    Luke and Aristarchus were willing to sacrifice their own lives, their own involvement in their own things and whatever it was that they were doing in order to spend time with, encourage, and support another, namely Paul.

    From Every Nation. The word "faithful" is used a lot these day to encourage believers to remain strong in their faith, especially as the world moves more and more into a post-churched culture. Being "faithful" is used positively as Christians grow in their faith and mission outreach, but at other times it is used as an excuse to isolate ourselves from the evil culture around us. "Faithful" is also used to say that we shouldn't change anything in the church. "Faithful" has been used to justify smallness. Some would say that we are not called to be big, but faithful. On the other hand, "faithful" can be used to inspire our mission efforts in our congregations, districts, and Synod. Read More

    What type of Soil are you for the Seed to be planted? The Parable of the Sower would first call us to consider which type of soil we are, in which the Spirit might plant the seeds of the Word. Of course, each of us would respond that we are "the good soil, that yields a crop, a hundred times more than was sown." Perhaps more honest reflection may lead us to confess that at times "life's worries, riches, and pleasures hinder our maturing." We would do well to pray for grace-given fecundity,that our fruitfulness might exceed what is sown in us. Read More
